La Chorrera Mayor Evaluates Extending Waste Collection Plan

La Chorrera's mayor, Eloy Chong, is working with Veolia Panamá to decide on extending a contingency waste plan. The company aims to modernize its fleet and participate in a future municipal bid. Over 400 tons of waste were collected in the first week.

Eloy Chong, mayor of La Chorrera, stated that this week he will evaluate, together with the management of the cleaning company Veolia Panamá, whether or not to extend the contingency plan. Alejandro Ochoa López, the company's manager, said they are trying to meet the collection frequency announced for the end of 2025, although the current priority is to stabilize routes and modernize the fleet. Ochoa said the company is interested in participating in the bidding process that the municipality of La Chorrera must carry out in 2027 for the hiring of a new cleaning company. The goal, said Mayor Chong, is to reduce the accumulation of waste in streets, neighborhoods, and public areas that, for various reasons, Veolia Panamá has left to pile up. The operation, which has employed trucks from the municipality, community boards, and the cleaning company Veolia Panamá, has covered the neighborhoods of the urban districts of the district and others on the periphery. No less than 400 tons of solid waste have been collected in La Chorrera during the first week of implementation of a contingency plan put into practice by the mayor's office of this district.
